Alternative Fibers/Post Consumer Waste (PCW) Papers
Creating quality papers, as well as jobs for abaca farmers, for the betterment of the environment.
Abaca is a unique fiber grown predominately in the Philippines and Ecuador. Glatfelter, the largest producer of abaca pulp in the world, makes tea bag papers from abaca. The benefits are twofold—employing abaca farmers enables them to receive fair compensation for their fiber and it allows Glatfelter to produce high-quality papers and products.
In North America, as fully integrated mills, both the environment and our customers benefit from developing recycled papers made from post-consumer waste, as there is an opportunity to reuse materials and generate biomass electricity. Less truckloads are used to transport materials, and all processes are in one location.
