Glatfelter Celebrates Arbor Day 2010

York, PA, April 16, 2010 -- In observance of Arbor Day, Glatfelter’s Pulp Wood Company helps communities celebrate by encouraging tree planting and care.  Even before Arbor Day officially arrives, landowners in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia have been busy planting thousands of tree seedlings with the assistance of Glatfelter’s annual cost-sharing program.

In November 2009, Glatfelter offered to share the cost of tree seedlings with interested landowners in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia, and many responded enthusiastically.
The seedlings for the 2010 program included loblolly pine, white pine and Norway spruce purchased from nurseries in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.   All trees become the property of the landowner who may harvest them at a future date for any wood product.  Since 1951, this program has provided landowners with the opportunity to purchase seedlings at substantial savings.

Mr. Thomas Bosley, Vice President and General Manager, Glatfelter Pulp Wood Company said, “Glatfelter’s heritage of sustainability for more than 146 years is demonstrated in the way we conduct business.  We do this by intentionally using practices that protect and enhance the resources needed by future generations to enjoy a quality of life equal to or greater than our own.”

He continued, “In addition to creating products that conserve resources, improving manufacturing processes, practicing responsible forestry management, and utilizing environment, health and safety management systems, Glatfelter has assisted hundreds of private forest landowners, resulting in the implementation of sustainable forestry practices on thousands of acres of forest land.”

The Company encourages everyone to celebrate Arbor Day by planting trees and by promoting the wise management of our renewable forest resource.  Under proper management our forests can continue to supply us with wood products, clean water, wildlife habitats, and recreational opportunities.
