What drove your decision to
I became an employee of Glatfelter’s when they purchased our
mill in 2006. It was a breath of fresh air; Glatfelter brought a new
perspective – one of stability, focus and dedication.
What was your first position
with Glatfelter? Describe the additional opportunities you’ve
experienced during your tenure.
I started my Chillicothe experience as a co-op student working
to improve machine runnability in one of our finishing areas. After
graduating from college, I began my career in an environmental
engineer in Alabama and after several years I transferred to the
Chillicothe facility. I have had the opportunity to work on all
aspects within the environmental field and be a part of many
What has been your most
rewarding career moment at Glatfelter?
My most rewarding career moment at Glatfelter was hosting a
meeting with the Director of Ohio EPA. The Director and his
attending staff members were very impressed with our facility as
well as our continued environmental performance. His compliments
were definitely a highlight in my career.
What is your primary
responsibility within Glatfelter’s operations?
As the Director of Environmental, Health and Safety, my primary
responsibility is to ensure that we meet our Safety, Health and
Environmental objectives which are rooted in our core values of
Environmental Responsibility, Integrity, Social Responsibility and
Mutual Respect. We are continually seeking opportunities to improve
our systems, standardize procedures and enhance our capabilities to
surpass our goals and ensure our sustainability.
Tell us about an exciting or
challenging project you have worked on at Glatfelter.
One of the most challenging projects I worked on was
implementing a multifaceted environmental regulation commonly known
as Pulp and Paper MACT (Maximum Achievable Control Technology). The
implementation of this program involved multiple departments, many
areas of the operation and required several years of pre-planning.

In my current role, key skills and competencies include,
team/relationship building, strategic planning, technical
proficiency and communication skills.
What advice would you give to
someone considering employment with Glatfelter?
Glatfelter is a challenging and fulfilling workplace. My advice
would be to accept that challenge and bring your best “game”

Can you talk about a time that

In my position, I see the reflection of our Core Values on a
daily basis. One example of living the Core Values of Mutual Respect
and Social Responsibility was when a group of us developed, and all
of us implemented, our safety mission of Injury Free Every Day!
How do you strike a good
work/life balance? Does the company help you do this?
Sometimes it can seem challenging to strike a balance between
work and life but Glatfelter is helping as evidenced in our many
wellness initiatives including family wellness days, community
sponsorship and our Family Medical Center at our Chillicothe, OH
