Laurent: “A First-Class Company”

Laurent

The best way to learn about the benefits and rewards of a Glatfelter career is to hear about it from Glatfelter PEOPLE themselves. Each employee’s story is different, but all of them reflect the value we place on our PEOPLE and their unique contributions to success.

Q.

What drove your decision to join Glatfelter?

I wanted to join a strong Company with a good reputation about social issues and activities, that was innovative and successful from a financial perspective. In brief, a first class Company.

Q.

What was your first position with Glatfelter? Describe the additional opportunities you’ve experienced during your tenure.

My first position was in the Slitter department as a Slitter Operator Helper and then Slitter Operator driving the machine. Most recently, the Company asked me to attend a training corresponding to my previous skills as a fireman in order to take on additional responsibilities by becoming a Trainer for safety subjects within the Company.

Q.

What has been your most rewarding career moment at Glatfelter?

It was recently; the day when the Company asked me to become a safety trainer.

Q.

What is your primary responsibility within Glatfelter’s operations?

As described, I am in the finishing department. My role is to cut paper and to verify the quality of the paper before the rolls are shipped. At this point forward, I have an additional responsibility to provide safety training and contribute to increase the safety awareness of my colleagues.

Q.

Tell us about an exciting or challenging project you have worked on at Glatfelter.

My most current project I mentioned earlier; it is to develop my skills for teaching and training Glatfelter PEOPLE in different safety subjects such as first aid, fire prevention and working safely.

Q.

What are the key skills and competencies required in your current role?

I recently attended a “train the trainer” training in Dinard with the focus of being a Safety Trainer. This is reinforcing my skills I have learned and developed as part of my role as a fireman in the town where I live. Also, being a part of the Slitting department since 2004, I now have developed many additional paper skills, especially in long fibers and non woven materials. Additional training offered by the company have provided me the opportunity to acquire broader paper maker skills that I can use in the future as I grow with Glatfelter.

Q.

What advice would you give to someone considering employment with Glatfelter?

I would tell this applicant that they should choose a Company who takes pride in growth and innovation, as well as in their employees and equipment.

Q.

What differentiates Glatfelter from other companies that you could work for? What makes Glatfelter special?

Glatfelter is really unique and special. When I joined Glatfelter, I had short but numerous experiences in many other organizations. Glatfelter welcomed me and gave me the feeling that that I entered into a family.

Q.

Can you talk about a time that you saw one or more of our Core Values displayed?

The main example I have is the Environmental aspect. Huge investments have been made to reduce the water consumptions and the output from the paper making process. This aligns with my personal values of constantly improving our environment.

Q.

How do you strike a good work/life balance? Does the company help you do this?

It is sometimes difficult to make a balance between private and professional… especially because when my shift is over, I become a husband, a father, a friend and also a fireman. Very often after a night shift I am awakened to a call for assistance at a fire or to help somebody that was in an accident. At this time, there is no real connection between my workplace and the external demand as a firefighter, however I have faith that the company will continue to support me in my endeavors.
