Conserving, Recycling and Reforesting Resources
From investing in technology to improving recycling practices, Glatfelter is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and, in turn, the environmental footprint of its customers.
Incorporating recycled materials and creating production processes that conserve resources are some of the steps taken to reduce our environmental footprint. Waste reduction and in-house recycling programs extend across the company while specific manufacturing processes have been implemented to assist in reducing our carbon footprint. Glatfelter is also committed to reforestation by providing forest management services and quality timber harvests.
Environmentally Responsible Manufacturing
The advantages of our integrated mills include the reuse of pulping chemicals and the use of biomass to generate steam for use in our production processes as well as for generating our own electricity. Paper recycling is widely practiced, as a selection of Glatfelter’s book papers, envelope papers and carbonless papers are made from post-consumer waste.
Proper forest management provides assurance that our papers come from sustainable, non-controversial sources. Glatfelter also works in cooperation with organizations like The Nature Conservancy and with state government agencies to protect plant life and maintain and create diverse wildlife habitats. We are dedicated to meeting Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certification standards to ensure responsible forestry management practices.
